CWA organizes strong grassroots groups and coalitions, and campaigns to elect environmental candidates and
solve environmental and community problems.
Cesspool Phase-out Act
(S2505, H7699) The 60,000 cesspools in Rhode Island remain a serious threat to public health and water quality. Clean Water Action supports this legislation to eliminate cesspools posing the most direct threat to public water supplies and public beaches throughout RI and in coastal areas along Narragansett Bay.
Dental Mercury Pollution Prevention Act
(H7812a) The Narragansett Bay Commission has required dentists in their region to install pollution control technologies and implement best management practices to reduce the release of dental mercury to the environment. Already one year into their plan, they have been able to measure significant improvements in decreases to their mercury load. Clean Water Action supports legislation to expand NBC's successful program throughout the state.
The Electronic Waste Producer Responsibility Act
(S2509, H7789) Computers and other discarded electronic equipment contain lead, mercury, and other toxins that can damage kidneys, nervous and reproductive systems in addition to disrupting hormones and harming developing fetuses. Clean Water Action supports this bill to ban electronic waste from the landfill and require manufacturers to finance the collection and recycling of electronic waste.
